Competency of Professional Accountant in Malaysia as Attributes towards Compliance of AMLA 2001

Money laundering offences have becoming important issues worldwide. Within the accounting fraternity, discussions involved an issue related to low level of compliance by professional accountants towards anti-money regime in Malaysia. In context this study, refers both legislative requirements Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLA 2001) international standards Financial Action Task Force (FATF). Since introduction AMLA 2001, (includes auditors, tax consultants practicing accountants) been named as a reporting institution. As institution, are required implement programs submit suspicious transaction reports. Three namely “Know your customers or KYC”, “Clients due Diligent CDD” “Record keeping”. This study was undertaken examine importance competency training among accountant money compliance. used Protection Motivation Theory explain on that attributes. A questionnaire survey developed sent accountants. Findings from identified “competency & training” found be significantly regime.
